NDMU Women’s Basketball Team Makes History

By Andi Bailey

Notre Dame of Maryland University’s Women’s Basketball team made history this year by winning the CSAC championship for the first time ever! After closing their regular season with a 17-1 win, advancing to the CSAC semi-finals against Saint Elizabeth College, they won 66-52, advancing to the CSAC finals. With a full house, NDMU took on Clark’s Summit in the finals. Cheered on by NDMU students and staff, NDMU won with a 26-point lead at 83-57. During the celebration, the Gators took turns cutting a piece of the basketball net as a memento for their win. On March first, we said goodbye to our players as they hit the road to Connecticut to compete in the NCAA Division III tournament for the second time in NDMU history.

Individually, many of our players also made history this season. Kori People and Alexis Durham made the first-team all-conference in the CSAC conference. Daija Fitchett made the second-team all-conference. Kori People became NDMU’s single-season scoring leader with a total of 404 points. Before ending her last season, Daija Fitchett scored her 1000th point for NDMU. And Coach Wynn won coach of the year. Congratulations, Gators!
